Vancouver Hardware Meetup is a quarterly networking series organized by MistyWest that hosts panel discussions with local leaders on the latest trends and developments across many industries and sectors – from Agtech to Deep Tech and beyond.

As the person organizing (and hosting) the event series since 2019, I saw it necessary to update Vancouver Hardware Meetup’s branding with something fresh for 2024 that enables more cohesive graphic design for individual events. The group’s messaging was also due for an update in order to better align with MistyWest’s intended lead generation and recruiting outcomes from hosting.

With majority male attendance rates for its events, a neutral colour palette (with the exception of an aqua taken from MistyWest’s brand identity) was chosen with the intention of making Vancouver Hardware Meetup more inviting to a wider range of genders, and to deviate away from traditional ‘tech blue’.

Vancouver Hardware Meetup’s logo was changed, new visual elements were designed, and messaging was updated to articulate the group’s mission. This was followed by updates to the Meetup page, Eventbrite and MistyWest website to reflect these changes.

Since the brand update, meetup attendance has held steadily at roughly 100 per event. With over 1800 members and growing, Vancouver Hardware Meetup continues to be the largest and longest running hardware meetup group in British Columbia.
